- 3:00 now, the temperatures is 47 degrees. now at 4, the temperature is more at 46 degrees. so we will be cold this morning, and we will be cold this afternoon. let's check the traffic with lauren cook good morning. >> reporter: good morning. it's going to be a chilly election day but fortunately, traffic is nice and calm right now here in howard county. no delays from interstate 70 from columbia pike over to 695. and as we check in and look live at the west side of the beltway, here at liberty road, traffic moving right along it's going take a normal 11 minutes to travel the outer loop from 795 down towards 95. and as we check in and look at some other timesaver traffic drive times the beltway is in great shape taking 11 minutes from the outer loop to 95 all the way up to 83. and if you are using the jfx to get downtown, no problems to report whatsoever. you are looking at an 11 minute ride there as well. traveling southbound from the beltway all the way down to fayette street. that's the traffic. now over a you. a minute after 5. it takes

longer to brush your teeth than it takes a village to vote. in 43 seconds the results were in for president obama and his challenger governor romney. they had five votes each. this was in dictionville notch new ma'am -- dixville notch new hampshire. they are open at midnight in a nearby town. so obama won that village that was 23 votes romney received 9 and gary johnson he had one. it took about 6 minutes to cast 33 votes. the president's waking up in chicago where he will watch the results roll in tonight. last night, he had his final political rally when he was a candidate in iowa. his win there in the state's 2008 caucuses jump-started the first presidential bid. that was held in the building that housed his campaign headquarters during the 2008 election. mitt romney will cast his vote in massachusetts today. he and his wife ann will travel to belmont and vote this morning and mr. romney will hold an event in new hampshire.

last night it was supposed to be his last stop but he is going to travel to ohio and pennsylvania today and watch the results in massachusetts. there's several questions on the ballot number 4 for example. that's being called the dream act. now if it is passed it would allow children many so shall of some undocumented immigrants a chance to play in-state community rates for college and four year universities they have to meet certain criteria to be eligible. a yes vote on question 7 will allow another casino and table game at state casinos. a vote would keep the things the way they are with five casinos allowed in the state. nearly 09 million in dollars in advertising has been spent on both sides of the issues. there's question 6 we will hear more about that we will have live interviews talking about it. that's the issue of same sex marriage. we did break everything down for you all the referendums and candidates and everything you

welcome back and thanks for joining. today you will vote on whether or not to legalize same sex marriage in maryland and if it passes we be the first state to change the law by popular vote.

joining us is the president of the marylanders for marriage equality. you were saying ever since this got on the referendum you started to campaign how has it been going? >> it's been tough. it's been rough. and there's been some ugly points but i think all in all the conversation has been civil. it's been interesting to see families and mine's changed. -- mind's change as they discuss the issue around the dinner tables and coffee tables and things. so it's interesting to see i think most importantly just to see people's mind change. >> it's interesting you mention that because people feel so passionately about this issue. can you describe somebody whose mind did change and what was it that did it? >> well, you know, when we -- i am from union of health care workers and spent a lot of time talking to members about it and we had one member she was older

and had hadn't wrapped her mind around the issue and it's suggested to her that to talk to her granddaughter who she said was gay and she came back to me and she was like you know, my granddaughter is in love you know and she said and anybody who can make her that happy you know, she was like it can't be wrong i can't wrap my mind around it. >> what happens if it doesn't pass what do you do? do you -- where do you go from here. >> if it doesn't pass we keep going all year we have had great momentum i think nationally you know the fact that the conversation is taking place is signs of change you know. and so we will keep pushing forward. we have a awesome coalition of all kinds of folks in groups so we will continue to push and you know see what happens. >> what does it mean for maryland if it does? i think a lot of people wonder that because we could be the first state to pass this by

popular vote so what do you think it says to the rest of the nation? >> i think you know there's been times where maryland has been strong leaders and i think it sends a message that you know we are leaders and we are able to have a civil discussion about a very important issue that represents a minority. you know, and i think it shows that marylanders are stand on their own and will lead. >> do you have idea as to how it will go? >> nonwhat -- none whatsoever we are watching it down to thewire. so today is going to be an exciting day. so, you know we will see. but we are optimistic and think maryland voters will come out and support. >> what about having the governor support with this? does that help. >> yeah that was huge. he think specifically you know because he is catholic and you know in the beginning that was -- he was one of the folks that was very concerned about the religious protection in the act

that faith would not be forced to do this if they agree if-- >> can you touch on that that was big concern people thinking that this was something that where there was going to be some sort of confusion when it comes to church and state. >> yeah. and you know, that was something that i think was different about this time that you know we were able to sit down with clergy and come up with that protection and make sure that you know while we were you know coming with this new kind of new thing that faith would be protected anuld change the beliefs. >> all right ezekiel jackson thanks for come it's early. i appreciate your time. thanks for coming. >> >> thank you. another world trade center memorial is going to reopen in new york city. this is happening today. and the water rushed into lower manhattan. we are looking at the site right now where that water has

been pumped out. now parts of the visitor center around private entrance room for the victim's families they were damaged by four feet of water. some completely under water. construction there so the museum was damaged as well and the storm spared the core of the memorial. reflective fountains. those were arranged by the names of those who passed away. now of course, new york is keeping a close eye on the weather and so are we because it's about to change with the potential of getting nasty. let's go over to meteorologist lynette charles and see what we have in store. >> all right. let's talk about how cold it is this morning. because this is first and foremost as people are waking up this morning. we can see the temperatures in the 20s look at hereford 29, baltimore 34. and middletown at the freezing mark. and germantown at 31 and aberdeen good morning you are at 32 degrees. rock hall 30. 30 in denton more of the same in galena. this morning you need to bundle up. let's talk about the storm because we can see it breeg down to the south here -- brewing down to the south. it will slide off the coast and make its way up the coast as we

head into tomorrow. so we are going to be working with a nor'easter. the good news is, though, now the models really are coming together and it look like the center of the storm is going to stay further off the coast and we -- than we expected. being see the center of the storm. but outer bands along the delmarva and we can see the places closer to the coastline will be impacted by that last band of precipitation. now let's take it forward into wednesday night early thursday morning. that is when the best chance for some snow will work its way into the area and basically we are talking about the eastern shore. so that is a possibility of a few wet snowflakes across the area. it's going to be windy for tomorrow and also we will get some rain so even around baltimore, don't think that we are not going to be seeing rain because that outer band is more off along the coastal areas. we will get wet weather and be breezy going throughout the day. and it's the best chaps for some snow working their way in here as we go into thursday

signatures. >> yeah that's true. i think it's the first one successful in over 20 years really a strong street petition drive. and we were able to get over 162,000 signatures turned in. >> it seemed like the response was almost immediate in terms of those opposed to towards getting referendum which happened by june. >> right you are right. and thousands of marylanders got very engaged on this issue quickly. and they wanted to make sure that they had a say on the bill. >> it's right now it's around a 50-50 split on those for and against it. this is going to go down to the wire tonight. how has the response been on the street with the groups you spoke with. >> well the groups we spoke with are really excited. really, you know, win, lose or draw you look and say people put a lot of energy and a lot of time and effort into this issue. and they want to make sure their voices are heard at the ballot box and actually as volunteers around the state. so it's an incredible opportunity and it's a incredible race. >> derek, why the opposition? there are people saying fine

everyone should have the right to marry and to that loving relationship legally bound if they choose why the opposition? >> well you have to look at it. we don't look at it as opposition to anybody we are supporting maryland that's been around since 1973 and before that marriage was between a man and a woman. and it didn't change before that so our deal is we think that marriage is just fundamental core to society and benefited very well and it's more than about what in two adults want but the future and next generation and the kids and i think when you look at it and say, well, we change the law and nothing happens that's a disinginous perspective and we have to look at it and say what are the things that will change how are we going to continue to move forward in society and i think we will of course because we are great americans, but i think at the same time, this is one of the bills that's worth considered. >> you talk about the future and lessons to teach kids in future generations. is there a concern this could

be a lesson of exclusion and not inclusion? >> well that's a good question but i think you know when you begin to deal with exclusion we deal at what's best for the kids at the youngest ages i have three kids and i look at it my little girl and my little kids i want to be able to watch them and teach them and train them as i am teaching them at their own pace i don't think it's a thing it's a good conversation with someone recently it's one of the things where when you begin to deal with certain topic and subjects and especially in this one because it deals with sexual issues, that's wouldn't things that kids at early ages don't care about.but when we begin to push it on them they have to begin to consider things at an early age of kindergarten and first and second and third grade and that's tough and that's where parents will say you know, what let's try to keep that out of their ball park for a little while and let's slowly keep training them and teaching them.

>> 32 for 32 has gone to voter referendum and voted down across the country. a lot of eyes on maryland. is there concern. >> well, i mean, it is what it is. i would love to go into the day and early as it is this morning and say well, it's a 10 point lead or something like that but it's clear this is going to be a very close race and it's very tight, but either way, many people across the aisle have tried to have a really good solid discussion about the issue. and approach it from that vein and make sure people get the chance to weigh in and really say what they think about this issue. >> derek mccoy with the maryland marge alliance thanks for the time. >> appreciate it. >> voters of tomorrow made their choice on this election. 2500 middle school students cast ballots studying the issues of a debating. yesterday, the results were announced and president obama won by a landslide. >> because it's the future and it involves us and because our parents make the decisions but at the end of the day it affects us and society. >> the majority of students
